Alli An Anti-Obesity Prescription

A drug against obesity has been available since May 6, 2009 in pharmacies. To have Alli ®, a light version of the famous Xenical ® more need to go through their doctor. But the pharmacist is positioned at the forefront of the book to people who are overweight.
You know the famous Xenical ® Roche Laboratories. The drug is sold on prescription to help obese people lose weight. Today, an equivalent lower dosage (half dose Xenical) available without a prescription Alli ®. Marketed by this time the laboratory GSK, the drug received its European approval of marketing and landed in our pharmacies.
Alli, proven efficacy?
Anti-obesity drug in the retail sale libreDans Alli ® is like a light version of Xenical ®. It actually contains the same active ingredient, but half the dose (60 mg instead of 120 mg). Its mode of action is similar: it works by preventing fat absorption in the intestine. Approximately one quarter of these do not pass through the body and are removed “naturally”. This reduces the total calories of meals provided.
But does it work?
A study conducted on Alli ® with 391 Americans overweight showed a weight loss of 3 kg over 16 weeks for orlistat 60 mg associated with a reduced calorie diet and exercise. A comparison with the placebo group (but still with diet and exercise) that had lost about 2 kilos. This allows the manufacturer to put forward the argument shock: 50% loss of extra weight with Alli ®.
Alli is sold in two sizes of box: a box 42 capsules for two weeks of treatment suggested retail price of 39.90 euros and a box of 84 capsules for a month to 59.90 euros.
An issue very Framed
Alli ® is available free in pharmacies: he stays behind the counter, and only the pharmacist can deliver. And his instructions are clear: it is reserved for adults with a body mass index (weight over height squared) greater than 28. For Jean Parrot, President of the College of Pharmacists: “This is progress that overweight people may decide to take over before disease appears. This is a tremendous opportunity, but this must be well box.
Because no issue for pharmacists to transform the drug in pill miracle! Jean Parrot also envisages that pharmacists could calculate the body mass index of each patient before delivery. “If they do not need it, the pharmacist can refuse to sell it. And if you are obese or pathological condition, patients will be referred to a medical consultation” says he. And the issue will be made according to a strict framework. “pharmacists will explain the need for a reduced calorie diet, practice of physical activity and reduce consumption of fat. And ideally, they will monitor” adds John Parrot. He said the laboratory’s role is also crucial in the development of accompanying tools and information to pharmacists and patients.
Side effects of Alli
Note that orlistat has still some drawbacks well known. It can cause intestinal problems associated with the disposal of fat in the stool, especially diarrhea quite uncontrollable. Besides GSK recommends that his patients on the U.S. site promoting Alli ® for “wearing black pants and have a spare pair of early treatment” This requires in all cases to adjust its plan to have a diet low in fat, to avoid this. So Alli ® may be effective also, paradoxically, through dietary changes to avoid the side effects. It can also lead to decreased absorption of certain vitamins (especially A, D, E, K), so one must often resort to dietary supplements.
Besides these problems, the drug has no significant side effects, as confirmed by the 10-year decline in the prescription of Xenical ®.
A necessary follow-up
Do not expect Alli ® with a miracle pill that will allow eating much and losing weight. Its effectiveness is demonstrated in the context of comprehensive care, which includes a reduced calorie diet and adequate physical activity. Measures that are necessary for learning to balance meals, and avoid to take the pounds lost on discontinuation of treatment. Moreover, the manufacturer has understood since GSK will offer this summer a coaching program based on the advice of a nutritionist and physical activity www.alliprogramme.fr and has already implemented a number Azur (cost of local call) on 0810-320-300 to answer questions from patients.
In all cases, an assessment with a health professional is essential before considering taking Alli ®. This will not only make a precise assessment of your health and your weight will follow a serious and effective.
