
A drug against obesity has been available since May 6, 2009 in pharmacies. To have Alli ®, a light version of the famous Xenical ® more need to go through their doctor. But the pharmacist is positioned at the forefront of the book to people who are overweight.
You know the famous Xenical ® Roche Laboratories. The drug is sold on prescription to help obese people lose weight. Today, an equivalent lower dosage (half dose Xenical) available without a prescription Alli ®. Marketed by this time the laboratory GSK, the drug received its European approval of marketing and landed in our pharmacies.
Alli, proven efficacy?
Anti-obesity drug in the retail sale libreDans Alli ® is like a light version of Xenical ®. It actually contains the same active ingredient, but half the dose (60 mg instead of 120 mg). Its mode of action is similar: it works by preventing fat absorption in the intestine. Approximately one quarter of these do not pass through the body and are removed “naturally”. This reduces the total calories of meals provided.
But does it work?
A study conducted on Alli ® with 391 Americans overweight showed a weight loss of 3 kg over 16 weeks for orlistat 60 mg associated with a reduced calorie diet and exercise. A comparison with the placebo group (but still with diet and exercise) that had lost about 2 kilos. This allows the manufacturer to put forward the argument shock: 50% loss of extra weight with Alli ®.
Alli is sold in two sizes of box: a box 42 capsules for two weeks of treatment suggested retail price of 39.90 euros and a box of 84 capsules for a month to 59.90 euros.
